Missouri Comission for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

The Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing works with CIS and serves as the agency in the State of Missouri that certifies all of our Interpreters.

The Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing works with individuals, service providers, businesses, organizations, and state agencies to improve the lives and opportunities of all Missourians with hearing loss.

The Missouri Commission for the Deaf (MCD) was established by the Missouri Legislature in 1988 with the passage of House Bill 1385. The MCD office opened in July 1990 and was housed at the Missouri School for the Deaf until late 1994. At that time the office was moved to Jefferson City. The name was changed to the Missouri Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (MCDHH) in 2002 with the passage of House Bill 1783.

Missouri State Committee of Interpreters

The State Committee of Interpreters consists of a total of seven members, five interpreters and two public members. At least one of the public members shall be deaf.

The Committee will be responsible for promulgating rules for licensure that will include the application, qualifications, required fees, ethical rules of conduct, reciprocity with other states and the procedures for investigating and resolving complaints and violations.

All of Columbia Interpreting Services Interpreters are Licensed with the MCDHH and fall under the rules set forth by The State Committee of Interpreters.
